It is certainly a confusing time to be an immigrant in the United States. There's a lot of rhetoric thrown around about tightening immigration laws and deporting people who have been in the country for years.
Wherever you stand on these issues, it holds that the experience of an immigrant in these situations is much more difficult than a naturalized citizen. Primarily, people just want to know where the laws stand and if they'll be changed.
In the face of changes, it's possible that you or a loved one could be detained. When that happens, it'll be important to understand immigration bail bonds in Ohio.
When you're faced with the situation of trying to bail someone out of jail after being detained by ICE, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind.
First, locate your friend or loved one. Knowing the person's location can ease a great deal of stress about the situation. If you're unsure of the location, your best bet of finding them is by using the ICE detainee locater.
Have the person's Alien Number ready, and make sure you have their name, DOB, and country of origin. When it comes to names, there's a decent chance that there's a misspelling, so try out a few different spellings of the name if theirs doesn't come up at first.
Second, make sure that the person is in touch with an immigration lawyer right away. A lawyer will be the most knowledgeable person to be in contact with, and they'll have the requisite tools to expedite the court hearing and understand the legalities of the situation.
When these things are in order, you can start considering bonds. There are two primary types of immigration bonds:
1. Delivery Bonds
Delivery bonds are ones that allow a person who has been detained by ICE to be released in order to spend time with their families and get their affairs in order before the court hearing.
Courts will make the final decision as to whether or not the person will be released. The decision will be based on the crime and a bail amount will be set as a result.
For the bond to be given, ICE will need to give an arrest warrant and a notice of the custody conditions. After the bond is given, the person will be able to deal with the situation outside of jail, making communications with lawyers and family far easier.
2. Voluntary Departure Bonds
Voluntary departure bonds are given if the detainee agrees to leave the country at their own expense within a certain period of time. When a judge agrees to give this bond, the need for ICE to forcibly remove the person from the country ceases to exist.
Once a person pays the bail and leaves the country, they have the ability to have all of the costs refunded. This option is only available to those who have already left the country, however.

Just wanted to thank you and your colleges for your good work on bailing out my wife. I found you guys on the internet and had reservations about this whole process, with it being much more complicated than a regular bail bond. Your company does know what they are doing and your insurance company is properly liscensed to perform Immigration bonds as referenced on the Dept. of Justice's list of certified surety companies. Everyone was quick to take my calls, answer my questions and respond to my emails. Just wanted to say thanks and hope that everything concludes happily for me and my family.
I'm sorry it has taken so long to write to you, but life has been very hectic since we last spoke. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all your help and support during the time I was going through the process of obtaining an Immigration Bond. This was all new to me and as you know, it was also very stressful for me. But you were very patient with me, and guided me through all the steps of the process to a successful conclusion. No matter how many times I called you, you always took the time to help me and I never felt rushed or pressured. I'm sure you give this wonderful service to all your clients and I hope they appreciate you as much as I do. I hope to never have the need for this type of service again, but I will never forget your kindness and empathy. Many, many "Thanks" and "Good Luck" to you in all you do.
