All over the United States, immigrants are held in detention centers.
However, individual processes can vary from state to state, and how your case is handled will depend on where you're held.
In North Dakota, defendants are sent to Grand Forks County Correctional Facility.
If you know how to navigate the system efficiently, you or your loved one can leave the facility and close your case as soon as possible. In this post, we'll tell you how it works.
Read onto find out what immigration bail bonds are, how to post them, and what happens when you do.
What is an Immigration Bail Bond?
An immigration bail bond is an amount of money paid to the court to release a detainee from a detention center. This comes with the agreement that they will return to court when required.
What Types of Immigration Bail Bonds Exist?
In North Dakota, illegal immigrants can be given two types of bail bond.
The first is a delivery bond. This gives a defendant time to consult a lawyer before their court hearing, as long as they guarantee that they'll show up to every court date.
The second is a voluntary departure bond. Essentially, this means that a defendant gives consent to being deported. They are allowed to bypass a long court case and leave the country, as long as they cover their own expenses.
How Much Does a Bail Bond Cost?
There is no specific amount for immigration bonds in North Dakota. Amounts are set on a case-by-case basis, either by ICE or an immigration judge.
The amount depends on the defendant's criminal history, employment and immigration status, as well as their family situation.
For detainees who are considered to be a flight risk, they can go up to $10,000 or more. However, most illegal immigrants won't have to pay fees as high as this.
If it's your first time at immigration court, your fees should be considerably lower. In many cases, the bond is as little as $75.
Who Pays a Bail Bond?
If the detainee isn't able to post their own bail, someone they know can do it for them.
If they don't have cash, they can use property they own as collateral. This is a lengthier process, as the property needs to be assessed and valued first.
Once bail has been posted and the case is complete, the payment will be reimbursed. However, this process can take some time. In order to take this route, the person who is paying needs to own property in North Dakota and also reside there.
If this isn't possible, a bail bondsman can post it in return for a smaller fee.

Just wanted to thank you and your colleges for your good work on bailing out my wife. I found you guys on the internet and had reservations about this whole process, with it being much more complicated than a regular bail bond. Your company does know what they are doing and your insurance company is properly liscensed to perform Immigration bonds as referenced on the Dept. of Justice's list of certified surety companies. Everyone was quick to take my calls, answer my questions and respond to my emails. Just wanted to say thanks and hope that everything concludes happily for me and my family.
I'm sorry it has taken so long to write to you, but life has been very hectic since we last spoke. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all your help and support during the time I was going through the process of obtaining an Immigration Bond. This was all new to me and as you know, it was also very stressful for me. But you were very patient with me, and guided me through all the steps of the process to a successful conclusion. No matter how many times I called you, you always took the time to help me and I never felt rushed or pressured. I'm sure you give this wonderful service to all your clients and I hope they appreciate you as much as I do. I hope to never have the need for this type of service again, but I will never forget your kindness and empathy. Many, many "Thanks" and "Good Luck" to you in all you do.
